PREMA ARTS CENTRE - “Flora”

ALL ABOUT PREMA

Prema (pronounced Prayma) is a Sanskrit word meaning "selflessness, sharing and forward". The concept of Prema was started back in 1977 by the Centre's originator Andrew Wood and "Prema Project" opened its doors for the first time in January 1981 after many years of fundraising and building work.

The UK Glass Art Collective is made up of a group of 14 artists from around the UK. Most of the artists met whilst on a professional and creative development course, being run by the celebrated glass artist Catherine Dunstan, which led many to participate in a collaborative first exhibition.

With a shared passion for glass artwork, in 2023 the artists formed the UK Glass Art Collective. The collective is currently exploring and undertaking training from both within the group and using external glass artists for specific areas of interest.

Every one of the 14 members of the group brings specific expertise and a unique passion to the group, meaning that the output and creative work from within the collective continues to grow and develop. They exhibit in small clusters and when time and practicalities allow, they come together to show as a whole group.

For their show at Prema, the group has taken “Flora: plant life explored through fused glass” as its theme.

UK GLASS ART COLLECTIVE

“From the sea to the sky”

Art is not just about expression - it is about process, technique, and the mastery of materials. Glassmaking is a perfect example of this, and this innovative exhibition brings together 14 visionary artists, each of whom bravely pushes the boundaries of their chosen medium through their own unique and distinct approach.
